Speaking Out
Since we began reporting in fall 2007 under the name “Darfur Radio Project,” our focus has expanded from the conflict in Darfur to the wide range of issues facing Sudan in general. That’s why we’ve returned from our summer break with a new name, the Sudan Radio Project. Our program continues to explore a variety of topics impacting the lives of people of Sudan. This month, “Speaking Out.” We learn about Sudanese who are making their voices heard at home and abroad.
First, we hear about a Sudanese woman journalist who was arrested for wearing pants in public–and refused to plead guilty. Listen here.
Next, a look at activism in the Sudanese community of Philadelphia. Listen here.
Then, we speak with Emmanuel Jal, a Sudanese musician and former child soldier now based in the UK. Listen here.
And, we hear about the bond that’s grown between two Sudanese men living in Norway who had to spend Ramadan far from their families and neighbors for the first time this year. Listen here.
